Director’s Note
Welcome to the first production of BATS, the new name for St Teilo’s Amateur Dramatic Society. There are several new things about this particular production: a new play by a comparatively new author whose plays we have not performed before. Recently the author rang me to tell me that we are the first amateur society to do this play in Wales. I took the opportunity of explaining to him that we always respect the fact that we are performing in the Church Hall and would not wish to offend anyone by the use of strong language. He quite understood and readily agreed to my editing the script where possible.
Once again, we are giving the proceeds of our nightly raffles to the Singleton Hospital Chemotherapy Appeal, organized by the Evening Post. In November we were able to donate £320, so please give generously! There will also be a box, should any of you wish to donate to the Church Hall Restoration Fund. Talking of which, you may be interested to know that the CHRF Committee has decided to have a collage made to commemorate the millennium. Each organization using the Hall has been asked to design their own panel in whatever medium they choose. Using some of the suggestions made by our members and adding ideas of their own, Tony Currell has come up with the perfect design for the BATS panel. A BATS member had put in forty hours work into sewing it and you can see the finished result on display near the entrance. I’m sure that you will agree that it really is superb. The Society is extremely grateful to BATS members and Tony for their efforts on our behalf. When completed, the collage will be mounted under glass and hung on the gable end of the hall.
Those of you who are regular patrons will know that the proceeds of our raffles held at the last few productions have been given to the refurbishment fund (£579.50 to date).
As we are performing in a new look hall, we have decided to adopt a new name. From January, we will be known as Phoenix Players Amateur Dramatic Society and we hope to go on providing live theatre for the foreseeable future and to have your continued support, which is always greatly appreciated.
